Mary Barnecutt Biog 

Mary Barnecutt is Dublin-based composer and musician who works with a wide variety of artistic and educational projects. She writes and arrange music for film, theatre, dance productions, and has collaborated with artists such as Liz Roche, Justine Doswell, Amanda Coogan, Adrian Crowley, Ruth O’Mahony Brady and Ray Harman. She frequently works as a string arranger and soundtrack collaborator, most recently with Stephen Shannon for his Fathoms album due for release May 2023.  She is curator of the weekly Sundays at Noon concert series in Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery, and is co-director of Spike, Dublin’s annual alternative cello festival. www.spikecellofest.com. 

From 2017-2020 she was cellist and vocalist with Teać Damsa in their touring production of Loch Na hEala which whom she toured to South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Hong Kong and the Australia. www.teacdamsa.com

In collaboration with poet Nell Regan she has made a series of 6 music/poetry videos on the website Eavesdrop which were nominated for an O'Beal poetry film award in 2021. Watch here -

 

She has received Arts Council Professional Development (2020) and Agility Awards (2021) for an Audio Production Diploma in Pulse College which she completed in 2022. She is also in receipt of an Arts Council Music Bursary (2021) to pursue her own composition studies. She has recently held music residencies at the Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Co Cork (2020/1) resulting in a commission from Sirius, Cobh, To the Island ( 2020) and Dun Laoghaire County Council (in collaboration with Ruth O'Mahony Brady) (2021/2) an album, Heligo (in production).  

She produces, records and releases music on her label, Sharkwoman records.  Her first album, Into Air  was released in 2016.  Her most recent recording, Like Water  was released on March 1st 2024. ​
