Mary Barnecutt plays with ensembles across most genres of cello playing from free jazz improvisation to being the principal cello with the Dublin City Chamber Orchestra. She has written music for short films, theatre, dance productions, many educational projects and has worked with artists such as Chequerboard, Lioba Petrie, Julie Feeney, Kevin Murphy, Adrian Crowley, Seti The First, Vanishing Lakes, Vyvienne Long, Max Greenwood and Hilary Woods. She is also currently performing with Teac Damsa’s production of Swan Lake/Loch na hEala on tour which she has toured to South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Hong Kong and the Australia.

Mary runs two multi-instrumental projects in primary schools in Dublin 7 and Finglas. She is also concert programmer for the weekly Sundays@Noon concert series in the Hugh Lane Gallery since 2017.

She is a co-director of Spike, Dublin’s annual alternative cello festival. Mary writes, produces and records her own songs and music under the name Mary & the Pigeons and Mary Barnecutt. Her new album is currently in production with Stephen Shannon and she is developing a piece of performance for children with her sister, Kathrine Barnecutt for the Ark in conjunction with IMC for performance in February entitled Stringplay
